bakalis-hero

They say Mr. Bakalis fell into the sea…
but his grill stayed hot.

They say the sea gives and takes. And once, it gave us Bakalis.
In the early days of the resort, an old Greek man worked quietly on the grounds. He wasn’t in charge, nor did he ask to be noticed.
He was the handyman, the early riser, the quiet soul who whistled old Aegean songs as he trimmed the palms or mended the fishing nets left for display.
No one knew much about him, only that his name was Yiannis Bakalis, and that he’d once been a fisherman back home in Naxos. He never spoke of the sea, but each morning hewould stand at the shoreline, motionless, as if remembering something only the waves could understand.

Until one day, he didn’t show up.

They searched the grounds, the staff corridors, even in the rooms. But all they found was his cap, resting on a beach chair, and his treasured recipe book hidden in his toolbox.
Some say the sea called him home. Others say he simply left.
But everyone agrees: Bakalis never really disappeared. His spirit stayed. And so, this taverna was born; not just to honour his name, but to continue what he gave us: a love for honest food, shared stories, and the soulful silence of the sea.
